Hi, I am interested in applying to colleges in Southern New Jersey but I feel a bit lost about where to start. Can anyone share their experiences or knowledge about these colleges? Not sure about my major yet, so open to all kinds of programs!
Sure, Southern New Jersey has several great schools with a variety of programs, and each college has its own unique strengths and campus cultures.
Starting with Rutgers University–Camden, it's known for its law and business programs. A great aspect about Rutgers is that since it's part of the larger Rutgers system, students can take classes at other campuses for greater academic flexibility.
Rowan University, located in Glassboro, is an excellent school known for its engineering programs and education programs. Rowan also houses Cooper Medical School and has partnerships for students interested in health careers. The University has recently expanded with additional buildings, so you'll find plenty of state-of-the-art facilities.
Stockton University, located in Galloway, offers a very diverse array of majors, from the sciences to the humanities. Stockton is situated near the Pine Barrens and not too far from the shore, so there's plenty of natural beauty to enjoy. The University also boasts a brand new Atlantic City campus for students who prefer a more urban environment.
Lastly, The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) might be a little more north than what you're looking for, as it's located in Ewing, but it's often included when considering New Jersey colleges. Though technically a public university, its small size and strong focus on undergraduate education give it a liberal arts college feel. It's especially strong in education and nursing but offers a myriad of majors as well.
It's always a good idea to plan visits to these campuses to explore what each of them has to offer and to identify what resonates with you. If possible, try to sit in on some classes and chat with students or faculty members to get a real sense of the campus community. After learning more about these schools, make sure to consider your academic interests, as well as your personal lifestyle and preferences to make the most informed decision. Good luck!
