Thinking about heading to Washington DC for my college years. Looking for some input on public universities in the area. Anyone have recommendations or experiences with any of them?
There are a variety of quality public universities in and near Washington DC that you might want to consider.
The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is the only public university located within the city itself. It offers a range of programs and has strong connections with the local community. Moreover, studying in DC provides a lot of political, cultural, and internship opportunities that can be crucial for certain majors.
Just outside of DC, you'll find a few more options. George Mason University, located in Fairfax, Virginia, is a large public institution known for its programs in Business, Government, and Psychology. It's less than 20 miles from downtown DC, so you'd still be in close proximity to all that DC has to offer.
On the Maryland side, the University of Maryland, College Park is a high-ranking public university that's also nearby. It has well-regarded programs across a number of fields, including Engineering, Business, and Journalism.
Remember, one school may be a better fit for you than others based on your intended major, desired campus experience, and the sort of setting in which you thrive. I recommend researching these schools more in-depth, considering your own preferences, and if possible, visiting the campuses or taking a virtual tour to get a feel for what could be your college home for the next four years.
