Tulane on US News

Hello folks! I'm seriously considering applying to Tulane and saw that they're ranked pretty high on the US News list. Can anyone share more insights about the school, like the campus life and academic culture, beyond what's reported in the ranking? Thanks in advance!

Sure, happy to dive into that a bit! Tulane University is located in New Orleans, a vibrant city known for its unique culture, music scene, and cuisine. The city deeply influences student life and gives Tulane a unique character compared to schools in more traditional college towns.

Academically, Tulane is known for its rigorous programs and commitment to community service. In fact, public service is not only encouraged but required as part of the core curriculum. The university offers a wide range of majors, but some of the most popular programs include Business, Health Professions, and Biological and Biomedical Sciences.Tulane also has a strong focus on research, and it's not unusual for undergraduates to get involved early on. This is particularly true for students in STEM programs. The school is classified as an R1 Doctoral University, which means it has very high research activity.

As for campus life, Tulane students come from across the United States and globally, creating a diverse student body. Approximately 39% of students are involved in the strong Greek Life scene on campus. Tulane sports teams participate in NCAA Division I athletics. Many students also take advantage of New Orleans' festivals and events like Mardi Gras.

Keep in mind that Tulane has an academic profile similar to other highly ranked universities. This means you'll often be surrounded by motivated, intellectually curious peers. Amidst all the academic rigor, Tulane tries to keep things balanced with an emphasis on social activities and taking advantage of the cultural richness of New Orleans.

While rankings can provide some insights, remember to focus first on finding a school that will be a good fit for your academic, career, and personal goals. Consider visiting Tulane's campus if you're able, because there's nothing quite like experiencing these things firsthand.Just one word of caution: New Orleans can have a pretty humid climate, so if you're used to a drier environment, be prepared for this change. But don't worry, most students get used to it quickly. Hope that helps!
