Does anyone have experiences/reviews about High Point University? Looking for stuff about their academics, student life, faculty, resources, etc. Trying to get a genuine perspective before I apply.
When considering High Point University, there are a few aspects to note. While I can't speak to personal experience, I can share some general information I've gathered over the years.
Academically, High Point is often praised for its strong focus on experiential learning. Many students value the emphasis on practical skills and real-world experience, which is integrated into many aspects of the curriculum. They have a number of robust majors with specific concentrations such as Communications, Business, and Exercise Science, which allow for deeper understanding and exploration in these areas. The faculty at High Point are generally perceived as caring and committed, and the small class sizes (average about 25 students) mean you'll be able to establish more meaningful relationships with your professors.
As far as resources go, the university is well-regarded for its modern facilities and extensive support structures. They have a holistic approach to student success, including free tutoring, career counseling, health and wellness coaching, and student success coaches.Talking about the student life, the campus is noted for being picturesque and well-maintained. The vibrant student body engages in a plethora of student-run clubs and organizations. Greek life is also a significant part of the community, with about 30% of students participating in fraternities or sororities.
In terms of drawbacks, a common complaint is that the campus is somewhat isolated, and attractions off-campus can be a bit limited. Additionally, while some find the professional and career-focused nature of the curriculum to be a plus, others may miss the broad exposure to various disciplines that comes with a more traditional liberal arts education.
Finally, only you can truly determine if a school is a good fit for you. My best advice would be to try and get in touch with current students or alumni to get first-hand accounts. And if possible, a campus visit could be a valuable element of your decision-making process. Start exploring campus for yourself here: https://www.highpoint.edu/admissions/visits/.
