Flagler College recently caught my eye because of their interesting programs, but I'm not clear on their admissions process. Does anyone have any personal experiences or insights they could share?
Flagler College has a fairly straightforward and holistic admissions process where they consider both your academic achievements and the individual qualities you bring. Here's a breakdown of the steps you should follow:
1. Completion of the Application: You can apply through their website using the Flagler application or via the Common Application. The application requires basic information about your academic history, activities, and interests.
2. Submission of Official High School Transcript: Your high school guidance counselor can usually send this directly to Flagler's admissions office. They'll look at your overall GPA, the rigor of your coursework, and any upward or steady trends in your grades.
3. Standardized Test Scores: As of the 2024-2025 application cycle, Flagler is test-optional, which means you can choose whether or not to submit your SAT or ACT scores. If you feel your scores don't accurately reflect your abilities or if you were not able to take them, you can opt to not send them.
4. Letters of Recommendation: While not required, recommendation letters from your teachers, guidance counselors, or other adults who know you well can strengthen your application by providing more context about you as a student and individual.
5. Personal Essay: Flagler requires an essay to understand more about your experiences, values, and aspirations. This is your opportunity to express what makes you unique and why you're a good fit for Flagler. Reflect on your experiences and choose a topic that you're passionate about to ensure your individual voice shines through.
6. Interview: Although optional, an interview can be a great way to demonstrate your interest in Flagler and provide additional context beyond what's in your application. You can schedule an interview with an admissions officer, either in-person during a campus visit or virtually.
After you submit your application, it is reviewed by an admissions committee. They try to get a holistic sense of your academic potential, extracurricular involvement, character, and fit with Flagler's community.
The college offers both Early Decision (binding) and Regular Decision admissions, so depending on when you apply, decision notifications will be released at different times. The deadlines are typically in November for Early Decision, and February for Regular Decision.
Best of luck with your application! It's terrific that you're interested in Flagler College and its unique programs.
