Life at JMU: What's it like?

Hello! I'm considering JMU as one of my top choices, so I'd love to know more about what being a student there is like. Is there a strong sense of community? How are the clubs and activities? More importantly, how's the food and dorm life? Thanks in advance!

Hello there! Great to hear that you're considering JMU! I'm sure you'll find that this school has a lot to offer.

Firstly, the sense of community at JMU is often said to be one of its most endearing features. The students, faculty, and staff are generally known for their friendliness and school spirit, which can contribute to a vibrant campus life. In fact, JMU is often referred to as "The Friendly City," which really goes to show the camaraderie among its students.

Now, when it comes to clubs and activities, you won't be disappointed. JMU hosts more than 300 student organizations, ranging from academic societies to social clubs. Whether your interests are in music, drama, sports, arts, or academic clubs, you're likely to find a group of like-minded folks to share those interests with.

As for food, JMU has a variety of dining options to cater to different tastes and dietary needs. Many students appreciate the dining halls for their wide selection and quality of food. They've even won awards for being some of the best in the country!

Regarding dorm life, most first- and second-year students live on campus. This helps to foster a sense of community and allows you to make plenty of friends. Plus, many students find the convenience of being close to classes, dining areas, and libraries to be a significant benefit.

All that being said, every student's experience can be different, so it's important to visit the campus (if you can), talk to current students, and engage with the school’s admissions to get a feel for what JMU has to offer. Good luck!
