Seeking Intel on The Citadel Military College

Hey guys, I've heard a lot about the Citadel Military College. I’m really interested in joining but was hoping anyone here could share about what the application process is like and any tips for getting accepted?

The Citadel Military College has a unique application process due to its dual nature as a military institute and educational body. However, rest assured, it's a comprehensive process designed to assess not just your academic abilities but also your potential for leadership and commitment to the development of disciplined, principled leaders.

To start off, you'll need to complete the Citadel's online application, which asks for your personal information, academic history, and extracurricular activities, similar to many other colleges. However, the Citadel admission process also includes an evaluation of your character and fitness level.

For the normal academic assessments, you will need to submit your official high school and college transcripts (if applicable), along with SAT or ACT scores. However, be aware that as of the 2024-2025 application cycle, the Citadel has a test-flexible policy. This means you can choose to submit your SAT/ACT scores, but they're not strictly required. Your GPA and the rigor of your coursework in high school will be assessed.

The Citadel uses a personal interview to evaluate an applicant's character as well. The interview can be conducted online or over the phone and is a significant part of the admissions process. This way, the admissions office can gauge your commitment to becoming a principled leader and being part of a military institution.

Finally, there's the fitness aspect. The Citadel requires all applicants to undergo a physical effectiveness test during their first week on campus. Although the test results don't affect your admission into the Citadel, they do establish your physical baseline for the Citadel's fitness program.

As for tips for getting accepted, demonstrating leadership in extracurricular activities can be beneficial. In addition, be authentic and emphatic about your desire to become a principled leader in your essay and interview. Show that you value the Citadel's core values of honor, duty, and respect, and illustrate this with examples from your life where applicable. Preparing for the physical effectiveness test early on, by regularly maintaining your fitness levels, could also be advantageous.

Remember, given the military nature of the Citadel, it's beneficial to approach the application process with not just quality academics but also robust personal traits and fitness levels. Best of luck with your Citadel application journey!
