Meal Plans at App State?

I'm seriously considering Appalachian State University. Any current or past students, can you tell me about the meal plans there and their pros and cons?

Appalachian State University offers several meal plan options, which cater to different eating habits and lifestyles. Here are a few key upsides and downsides:

Pros:

1. Variety of Options: The university provides various plans according to the meal pattern and budget of students. There's the All-Access - ideal for those who eat frequently, and the 350 Block which includes 350 meals per semester if you prefer eating 2-3 times a day. Board meal swipes can be used at any campus dining location.

2. Guest Swipes: A feature of some meal plans is that you're allowed a number of guest swipes per semester, so you can treat a friend or family member to a meal.

3. Flexibility: Dining Dollars included in the meal plan work on a dollar-for-dollar basis at all on-campus dining locations. This means you can grab a coffee, snack, or meal whenever it suits you.

Cons:

1. Feasibility: If you're not a big eater or tend to skip meals, you might find it challenging to use all the allotted meals, especially with plans like All-Access.

2. Limited Off-Campus Use: Meal swipes can only be used on campus, limiting your choices if you prefer to eat off-campus or cook your own meals.

3. Expiry: Unused meals from each week in the All-Access plan do not roll over to the next - they expire. Unused Dining Dollars roll over from Fall to Spring but expire at the end of Spring semester. Be sure to review these considerations and select the right meal plan, keeping your diet habits, class schedule, and budget in mind.
