Getting Credit for my Military Experience

Hey there! I've spent years in the armed forces and now thinking of hitting the books again. But I'm wondering, are there colleges that grant credit for real world military experience? If so, could you recommend some?

Absolutely, many colleges indeed recognize the value of real-world military experience and grant college credits for it. It usually happens through the evaluation of your Joint Services Transcript (JST), which documents your military occupational experience and training history, recommended college credits included.Of course, the amount of credit you may receive can vary widely, depending on the institution. So, it's always advisable to contact the college admissions offices directly to understand their specific policies. That being said, I can point you in the direction of a few institutions known for being veteran-friendly and recognizing military training:

1. American Military University (AMU): A fully online institution, the AMU is part of the American Public University System and has a robust policy of accepting military training credits.

2. Excelsior College: They're known for their generous transfer policy and offer credit for military training as per the recommendations in the American Council on Education (ACE) guide.

3. Thomas Edison State University: Similar to Excelsior, this university also accepts ACE recommendations and has a number of flexible online degree options.

Furthermore, colleges within the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) network are committed to recognizing military experience and training as part of their credit evaluation process. This would be another good list of schools to check out.

Lastly, it might be beneficial to look into colleges with strong degree programs related to your field of interest or career plans to ensure the credits you earn will be meaningful to your future.Remember, the admission office is your friend in these situations. They can help clarify how your JST will translate into credits at their institution. Good luck, and thank you for your service!
