Can anyone give me insight about DePaul University in Chicago?

Hello! Rising senior here who's considering DePaul University. I'm curious about the program offerings, housing situation, and overall student life. Can any current students, alumni or anyone with knowledge about this university chime in?

DePaul University is known for its urban setting and solid program offerings across a broad range of disciplines. It’s located in the city of Chicago, giving you access to numerous opportunities for professional growth, internships, and cultural experiences.

Academically, its programs in Music, Theatre, Animation, Business and Computer Science are particularly well-regarded. The classes tend to be smaller, providing more individualized attention to students and fostering close relationships with professors.

Housing at DePaul is often described as comfortable and accommodating. There are multiple options for first-year students, including traditional residence halls and suite-style living. After the first year, many students choose to live off-campus in nearby apartments for a more independent lifestyle.

Student life at DePaul is vibrant, with over 300 student organizations that cover a wide array of interests from community service to professional development, arts, sports and more. Being in a large city like Chicago offers an extensive list of things to do including museums, theater, foodie spots, and major sporting events. However, it's important to consider that DePaul is a commuter campus which means the campus can often feel emptier on weekends when a lot of students go home or explore the city.

Lastly, similar to many city-based campuses, space can sometimes feel limited and the layout is more spread out compared to a traditional college campus. Some buildings are a good distance apart which can make getting from one class to another a bit of a hustle.

Remember, these are just descriptions of general trends. For a feel of how you would fit in, I would strongly recommend visiting the campus if you can or attending one of their virtual tours. Talking to current students or alumni is also a great way to gain further insight.
