Curious about AI and college application essays

Hey there! I've been working on my application essays and a concern popped up in my mind. Do colleges typically employ AI (Artificial Intelligence) for checking the originality or other aspects of essays? Does anyone have any info or experience about this? Thanks in advance guys!

Indeed, some colleges and universities do use AI-based programs to assist in the admissions process, especially when there's a high volume of applications. However, these tools serve primarily to streamline the review process, not to make the main judgments about the quality of your essays.

One of the ways AI is used is in checking for plagiarism, to make sure the work submitted is original. Tools like Turnitin can compare the essay with millions of other works on the internet, published papers, and previous application essays to ensure that the work is unique.

However, when it comes to evaluating the content, context, and creativity of the essays, there's no replacement for human judgment. Admissions officers ultimately make the decisions, taking into account not just the essay but the whole application. They look at the student's story, their experiences, their fit with the school, academics, and other factors. As of now, AI has not reached a point where it can completely understand and evaluate such complex and nuanced content.

So while AI can help streamline the administrative side of the application process, it's the human touch that does the real evaluating. Just focus on presenting an authentic and powerful representation of yourself in your essays and let the admissions officials do their work!
