Does High School Spanish count for College?

Hey there! I completed a few levels of Spanish in high school and was wondering if it would count towards any language requirement in college. Does anyone have insight on this? Does high school Spanish count?

The specifics of this can vary depending on the college or university you attend. A good number of schools do indeed have a foreign language requirement as part of their core curriculum, and sometimes, completion of a high school language course can meet these requirements.

However, it's important to note that the exact level of Spanish you've reached in high school will likely influence whether it's enough to fulfill a college requirement. For instance, if your college requires proficiency equivalent to two years of college-level language study, and you've taken four years of Spanish in high school, you may meet the requirement.

Many schools also use placement tests to determine your level of proficiency and whether your high school courses will suffice. These tests are usually administered during orientation or at the start of the academic school year.

In short: it's possible that your high school Spanish courses might count toward your college language requirement, but you'll need to check in with your college's specific policies or speak to an academic advisor to know for sure.
