Georgetown University Interview Advice

I've worked my butt off to get a chance at an interview with Georgetown University. I'm not sure what to expect. Do any of you have some advice on how to prepare, expected questions, or general tips?

First and foremost, congratulations on landing an interview! This is a great opportunity to showcase your personality and further interest in Georgetown University. Here's some advice to help you prepare and understand what to expect.

1. Study Georgetown University: Understanding the university's Jesuit values, culture, traditions, academic programs, extracurricular activities, and community will be essential. You can obtain this information from the university website and other legitimate sources. This will help you tailor your responses to the specifics of the university and articulate why you’re the right fit for Georgetown.

2. Prepare for Common Questions: While the questions will likely be specific to you and your application, there are some common ones that you should prepare for such as, "Why Georgetown?", "Tell me about yourself", "What do you intend to major in and why?", "Tell me about a challenge you faced and how you handled it," "Describe an intellectual experience that has meant the most to you", etc. Think about your response, experiences, and examples that can illustrate your point.

3. Questions You Can Ask: At some point during the interview, you’ll have the chance to ask your own questions. It could be about campus culture, what the interviewer enjoyed most when they were a student there, the classes they took, or any tips they can offer.

4. Practice: Even though you don't want to sound rehearsed, practice will make you more comfortable. Set up a mock interview with a friend, family member , or counselor to get a feel for the question and answer format.

5. Dress Appropriately: Georgetown interviews are typically business casual. Look neat, comfortable, and professional. First impressions do matter!

6. Be Yourself: This may seem cliché but it's crucial. They want to get to know the real you, not a rehearsed version. Speak openly about your interests, passions, accomplishments, and future plans.

7. Follow up: A thank you note, whether hand-written or via email, to the interviewer for their time is always a wonderful gesture. Remember to keep it concise and genuine.

Remember, the interview is also a great opportunity for you to see if Georgetown would be a good fit for you, so relax and enjoy the exchange. Good luck! You got this!
