Transferring ACE College Credits

So... I'll be starting my military training soon and I was told that I'll earn 'ACE college credits'. I'm a little lost on how I'll transfer these credits to a college. What's the usual process for this? Do all colleges accept ACE credits? Thanks in advance!

To transfer ACE (American Council on Education) credits to a college, you'll typically need to start by having an official ACE transcript sent to the institution you're planning to attend. The military should have provided you with specific instructions on how to request and send this transcript.

Once received, the college will conduct an evaluation of the credits to determine which ones can be applied to your program of study. It's important to understand that while ACE provides recommendations on the academic value of military training and occupations, these are just recommendations. Ultimately, it's up to the college or university to decide how credits will be awarded.

Regarding your question if all colleges accept ACE credits, the answer isn't straightforward. While ACE credits are widely recognized, not all colleges and universities accept these credits for transfer. Some institutions may only accept a portion of ACE-recommended credits, and others might have specific rules about applying these credits towards degree requirements. Therefore, it will be important for you to research and speak directly with the Admissions or Registrar’s Offices at the colleges you're interested in for the most accurate information.

For future planning and reference, you might want to consider institutions that are part of the ACE network, as they have a commitment to recognizing and accepting ACE credits.

Keep in mind, also, that the process and acceptance can vary even among colleges in the ACE network, so it is always worthwhile to verify the details with each school. And always try to keep a copy of your ACE transcript and the syllabus/descriptions of the courses/training for which you received ACE credits, in case you need to provide additional details or appeal a transfer decision.
