Looking for Info on Higher Education in Kansas

Hey everyone, I'm currently a rising junior and I'm starting to look at colleges for post-high school. I live in Kansas, so I'd like to start my search close to home. Can anyone give me some insight into what kind of colleges are in Kansas? How are their rankings, programs, student life, etc.?

Certainly, there are several notable colleges and universities in Kansas that vary widely in size, focus, and offerings. Here are a few:

1. The University of Kansas (KU): Located in Lawrence, KU is a public institution known particularly for its programs in education, journalism, and engineering. Student life at KU is vibrant with plenty of clubs, extracurricular activities, and an active Greek life.

2. Kansas State University (KSU): KSU is in Manhattan, known as "The Little Apple". It's a public research university recognized for its veterinary medicine and architecture programs. Its campus life features sports events, extracurricular activities, and many clubs.

3. Wichita State University (WSU): WSU is a well-regarded public institution located in the state's largest city. It offers degree programs in a range of disciplines, but is especially known for its engineering and business programs. WSU boasts a bustling student life with lots of options for involvement, such as participating in student organizations, attending theater performances, or joining intramural sports.

It's worth noting that each school has a different feel and learning environment, so it would be very beneficial for you to visit the campuses in person or virtually if that's not possible. This will give you a better idea of which one(s) could be a good fit for your personal and academic interests.

Additionally, all mentioned universities offer on-campus housing, and the overall cost of living in Kansas is generally lower than the national average, so that might influence your cost considerations as well.

As for rankings, each of the three universities I mentioned hold fairly respectable positions, particularly in their strongest disciplines. KU, for example, ranks among the top 200 public national universities in U.S. News & World Report rankings.

Hope this gives you a starting point!
