The National Society of Leadership and Success: Yay or Nay?

Hey everyone, does anyone have info on The National Society of Leadership and Success? I received an invitation to become a member, but I'm on the fence about whether to accept it or not. Is the membership really beneficial? Or it is more of a money maker for the society? Any input would be appreciated.

The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) is a large leadership honor society in the United States. While some students do find value in being a part of NSLS due to the opportunities it offers for networking and skill-building, it might not have the strong resume-boosting impact that you might be expecting.

When considering honor societies, it's important to understand that colleges and future employers often look for commitment and impact in a student's activities. Often times, highly respected honor societies involve more than just paying a membership fee. The ones that could enhance a college application or resume usually require students to meet high academic standards, participate in projects, or show evidence of leadership.

In terms of NSLS, besides paying your membership fee, you're also expected to invest considerable time into following their steps to induction, which include participation in orientation, leadership training, speaker broadcasts and networking teams. Some students find the videos and trainings helpful, while others may not.

Also remember that there are many factors that colleges consider in admissions - grades, test scores, quality of extracurriculars, essays, and more. Membership in an honor society such as NSLS can be part of an impressive application, but it likely won't be a deciding factor.

Ultimately, whether NSLS is beneficial for you depends on what you want out of the experience and whether you think it's worth the investment of time and money. If you're looking for networking opportunities, potential scholarships, and are genuinely interested in the leadership training, then it could be a great opportunity. If, however, you're joining solely to boost your college applications or resume, you might want to think twice and potentially focus on other extracurriculars that might help you make a more direct impact in your community or field of interest.

Finally, when joining any organization, it's a good idea to conduct some independent research and consider reaching out to current or former members for their input to make a more informed decision.
