Worth Being Part of National Society of Leadership and Success?

So here's my predicament: I’ve been invited to the National Society of Leadership and Success and I'm not sure whether to join or not. It demands some commitment and I don't want to waste time on something that won't add value to me. Is it worth the effort in terms of building leadership skills and networking?

While organizations like the National Society of Leadership and Success can certainly provide opportunities for growth, networking, and leadership, they aren't necessarily seen as impressive or influential on your college applications. This stems from the fact that membership is often acquired through paying a fee, and the acceptance criteria can be fairly broad.

However, bear in mind that any experience can be beneficial if you make the most out of it. You might develop valuable skills, gain meaningful experience, meet interesting people, and contribute to your community through projects and events. Furthermore, involvement in such organizations can possibly still have benefits when it comes to making connections and learning leadership skills, even if they aren't as impactful on your application.

Further, before committing to these societies, it is important to place your time and energy where it will bear the most fruit. Remember the 4 Tiers of Extracurriculars. Top colleges are more interested in seeing high engagement and leadership in few, meaningful activities, rather than broad participation across many. This shows you have direction and are capable of committing to and excelling in your pursuits.

After considering these points, the ultimate decision comes down to your personal goals, expectations, and whether you believe the potential networking and leadership possibilities are worth your time. If you believe the Society will provide the kind of environment where you can actively contribute and hone your leadership skills, it might be worth considering. If it's mainly for the prestige or for your college application, you might want to reconsider and focus your efforts elsewhere.
