Do AP scores affect admissions decisions?

How important are AP scores when it comes to college admissions? Are they a major factor or just a 'nice to have'? I've been studying like crazy for these exams and I'm hoping all this effort pays off.

For the most part, colleges and universities tend to place more emphasis on the AP courses you take and the grades you get in them rather than the actual AP exam scores. Taking these rigorous courses demonstrates that you're willing to challenge yourself academically, and achieving good grades can validate your aptitude in these areas.

However, that's not to say that AP scores carry no weight. They can serve as an additional data point showing your command of a subject, especially if you've scored a 4 or 5. They can also earn you college credit at many schools, which might allow you to skip some introductory courses.

Lastly, remember that all parts of your application - GPA, coursework, test scores (if submitted), essays, extracurricular activities, etc., will help paint the comprehensive picture of you as a candidate. While it's important to do well on AP exams, don't lose sight of the other components of your application. Build a strong holistic profile and let the AP scores be part of that complete image.
