IB Math HL
Answered

Hello!

I'm a junior who just started the IB program. I chose to take Math HL, and I already feel extremely overwhelmed and stressed by the class. I'm one of the worst people at math in the class, even though I got an A in Pre-Calculus Honors. I'm worried that I won't have any time for extracurriculars. I'm thinking of being a biology major in college, and my other HLs are Biology and English. I'm considering going down to Math SL, but then I would pick up French HL, which would be a lot easier and less stressful for me, but I'm not planning on doing anything with French in college. Additionally, it wouldn't look good on my transcript if it showed that I dropped Math HL. Any advice? Thank you!

I recommend switching to Math SL, since it will give you the same benefit in the admissions process as Math HL while also being less work. This is because American universities evaluate all IB classes as essentially the same, regardless of whether they are HL or SL. French HL will also improve your application by showing that you are a well-rounded student. Hope this helps!
