AP classes

I’m an international student. Neither my school nor the whole country offers AP/IB classes and I heard that I can take AP classes on EdX but yet if i’ve taken it, it will not get counted on my school transcript. So is it ok if i take paid AP class on EdX (certified) and add it on my common app resume?

Hi @potverdant!

If you don't have any AP or IB courses offered at your school, then just do your best to take the most rigorous courses available.

An EdX course would not be the same as an AP credit — at best it'd be an extracurricular. The point of those courses is to prepare you for an AP exam, should you choose to take it on your own. Here's some more info on what that might entail:

My advice to you would be to try a self-study regimen for the AP exams you're willing to take, and only fall back on the EdX course if you fall behind and can't see a way forward. Colleges actually really like to see a student pass the AP test on their own: it shows a drive and passion above and beyond the average student. An EdX course wouldn't necessarily hurt you, but it would cost extra money to get to the same place. I think self-studying would be a really great way to distinguish yourself from other students if you don't have access to standard AP/IB courses.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
