Should I major in Journalism or Creative Writing?

Hello everyone,

I love writing and I wanted to be an author since I was little. However, reality hit me and I noticed that authors do not have a good salary starting out, so I became interested in Journalism. I have attended Journalism boot camps with the University of Florida and have taken journalism and mass communications courses through dual enrollment. This may sound great, but my true passion is creative writing. Should I major in creative writing and take the hit of a poor salary, or should I major in journalism and have a good financial outcome? If you suggest I major in something else, please do comment!

You could possibly get a minor in creative writing, and you can always be an author while working another job in journalism.

My advice is to major in journalism and minor in creative writing as the fields generally overlap.

As someone who is interested in both too, I'm majoring in journalism but keeping a minor in creative writing in mind. I have found that the two truly play off of each other and I have learned things that "transfer over" from one to the other.

It is only natural that we have the same interests. We are both named "Jasmine".
