Should I drop APbio and APcomp sci for APchem?
Answered

Hello, I am going to be a senior however for some reason I am not able to put this question on other communities so I'll just ask here. Basically, my senior year starts in a few weeks and my schedule looks like this (not in schedule order):

-Apbio

-Apmicro

-Apcalc ab

- Apcomp principle

- regular english

- lunch

For some context, I plan on going into the Bioinformatics field and for some schools I plan on majoring in biology, others I plan on majoring in Biochemistry, others I plan on majoring in computational biology and one school i plan on majoring in chemical engineering. I don't know if I want to make a career change towards chemical engineering in the future but it is on my mind. Apchem in my school is 2 periods long so I would have to drop both apbio and apcomp to take the class. Should I make the change?

Though of course it depends entirely on the individual, AP chem is often considered one of the most challenging APs. Taking it and doing well not only looks good on transcripts, but if you plan to go into anything bio or chem related, it provides a solid stepping stone to advanced chemistry. Also, I would recommend getting it out of the way while you are in high school, so that your first experience with a rigorous chemistry course is not in a large college lecture hall. Additionally, you would already be taking two other APs, which means that colleges would still believe you have an academically challenging schedule.
