Scheduling: AP english or College Comp? Doubling up on science?
Answered

I’m a current sophomore and rising junior and scheduling my classes for next year. I’m interested in the medical field for the future (PA or NP maybe) but not completely set on that. The classes I’m currently taking are:

Honors Algebra 2/Trig

Honors Chemistry

Honors English 10

US history

Honors Spanish 3

I’m trying to decide whether to take AP language and composition next year (which is a full year class) or take CCP college composition (which is a half year community college class but taught at the high school)

Taking the half year CCP class would open up my schedule to double up on sciences and take possibly anatomy. Taking AP I would have a semester open still I could take AP microeconomics. Are colleges strict on the AP vs CCP english courses? These are my potential next year classes:

Honors pre-calculus

Honors Spanish 4

CCP government

AP physics

& anatomy if I double up

AP language or CCP english

What would you recommend? Thanks!!!

Good day! If you plan on attending the CCP class, just know that not all colleges will take the credits, on the other hand, if you attend the college it is offered by, they will definitely take it (In-state colleges will most likely also take it). AP classes are very rigorous but if you get a 4 or 5 on the exam most colleges will likely take credit for it. It is completely up to you which one you think may benefit you more, as they are slightly different.

I would, however, offer my piece on the doubling up on science. I did the same thing for two years, and doubling up with an AP is quite a change in routine. It was a surprise to me how much work I had, and I managed to struggle through it. If you can invest time and work into academics, then you should definitely give it a shot. If you are going to AP Physics 1 or 2, because those are algebra based and suitable for where you should be at with math. In my opinion, you don't need a physics prerequisite for this class because the foundation of the class itself is so similar to regular Physics, although possibly slightly harder without one.

On the other hand, if you want to take AP Physics C or EM, those are calculus based and you must know more advanced deriving and integrating with formulas, and no matter what, I don't recommend taking that without a Physics prerequisite and some knowledge of calculus (senior year?)

This is just my word of advice, and take this with a grain of salt.

I recommend CCP English. I am currently taking College Composition with my local community college online and it will transfer into my bachelor's degree after I graduate high school.
