Extracurricular opportunities in the North Texas area

Hi guys, I'm about to be a junior soon, and I plan to major in Biochemistry. I live in North Texas(Dallas kind of that area) and have been trying to find volunteering opportunities or internships, but it's been hard because many places don't respond or there aren't positions available. I really want to attend UT Austin, but I feel like I'm falling behind my peers in terms of extracurriculars. I didn't realize how difficult it would be to find meaningful activities for the summer, and now I'm not sure what options are still open. Does anyone know of any opportunities I can sign up for this summer? Thank you!

Volunteer at the hospital. I am doing that in my town and it shows them that you are interested in the medical field.
