Juniors

Do I have a chance at getting into a good school, or what can I do to up my chances?

I'm in my junior year right now, and I want to go to college to major in psych, and eventually becoming a therapist, most likely in Marriage and Family. I really want to be able to help people, so I want to go to the best school I can to try and up my knowledge

GPA: My unweighted is 3.30, but my weighted is 3.7 (Also which one do colleges want?) I've never failed a class, but there were a few where my grade wasn't great

AP/College classes: I'm currently taking Apush and college intermediate spanish. I also might be taking the AP Psych exam, as supported by the Psych teacher, even though i'm not in the psych class (My school doesn't offer AP Psych but you can still take the test if you want to)

ECs:

-I'm getting published in a national book of poetry this fall called "Excellence", through the American library of poetry

-I'm participating in ALL STATE chorus this december

- I've done AREA ALL STATE (Like ALL STATE but smaller) for the past two years

-I've done ALL COUNTY (like ALLSTATE but on a smaller scale) since elementary school

- I won first place in a poetry contest in my county, region, and then won second place in my state

-Done level six NYSSMA and a level six ALLSTATE solo for the past two years, getting a 99 and a 100 (I did NYSSMA in middle school, but I don't know if they need that too)

-Played varsity tennis tennis for the past two years, being in the top ten last year (I also did tennis in middle school)

- I've had multiple leads in school musicals and plays. I've also been ensemble multiple times.

-I've had one major lead in a musical outside of school

-I was a part of a mentoring program this year, where I would mentor freshman for the first three weeks to help them adjust to high school

-One of the head editors for my school magazine

- I've sung the national anthem by myself for multiple school events since freshman year, including in the Syracuse dome for my school's football team states game when I was a freshman. I've also sung the anthem for a few things outside of school

- I have a social media account with 180 followers where I post my art (I'm still working on growing it)

I haven't taken the SATs or ACTs yet, and right now i'm on track to get my regents diploma.

I feel like since I don't have a great unweighted GPA, I have to do better in everything else to up my chances, and I don't feel like i'm doing enough. Any advice?

You have a great chance of getting into a good school. Your chances would be low for the Ivy League, but there are many good private, not-so-well-known schools out there. I would still apply to any school you want to. I would take more college classes and another AP or two in your senior year. Choose a class in something that you enjoy. Have you taken any other AP/college classes?
