I contracted mononucleosis in the middle of first semester junior year, which obviously impacted my grades and I was forced to drop AP Calculus. I am wondering if that will hinder my chances at getting into some of the more selective schools I want to go to. My GPA as it stands is a 3.84 UW and a 3.95 W (my school doesn't offer honors classes).
Just explain well on the college essays bro, cuz if you have understandable reason, then it's fine
Yes and no. I totally recommend, if you can, signing up for online JC classes to get a more impressive array of transcripts for high school and college classes. It will show you are locking in and will be a good student in college. While it may hinder your GPA and will appear as a drop in your college apps, you can explain how mono affected you, and how you've strived to work harder to still be worth their time. I'd recommend starting an academic-based club to show you want more rigorous classes. Maybe it's an Advanced US history club where the club talks more deeply about the subject (if so, I can provide some sources to look into) or an Advanced english or math club. Best of luck and I strongly think you'll get into your dream colleges with how driven you are!
I'd check if you can take them over the summer, but at my school I was able to take AP Calc over the summer to be able to take multivariable senior year if taking APs is a need for you. Best thing you can do is just concentrating on building good grades and building a well rounded essay. I'd try using the calculators on college vine too to see your acceptance chances, as its your whole application that matters.
