I'm 6 months away from application and kind of stressing out because I want to go into engineering physics but I don't have any extracurriculars and proof of interest in engineering whatsoever. I'm scared it might be too late but I need anything solid for the next 6 months.
Wasted the past 2 years of high school, and never had a counselor (I know I should've done research myself) but now I don't have any exposure to: summer programs, research with professors, extracurriculars like robotics, competitions, side projects, etc. The only good thing I have is my grades, but that is not enough.
Please help, what should I do engineering related given limited time, super important.
Have you taken the act or sat yet? If not really study up for the math portions. A high math score indicates to engineering programs you're serious and aren't gonna quit the moment things get tough. You could try to take a community college class or two over the summer. I think in a college essay you could highlight your passion for it and tell your story, honestly, being as open and honest as possible is the best route to take. Overall, don't stress (You will have plenty of time to do that during college lol) I really hope this helps! Also sending you good luck on your applications! I believe in you ;)
Thank you! im taking the SAT in spring, and I think I'm ok on that, but the schools I plan on applying to are mostly test-blind. I'm wondering how I would highlight my passion for it on my essay without any outside exposure and experience in it, which brings me back to my point about programs, competitions, side projects, research, robotics, and etc. thank you for your help!
Volunteering at summer stem camps is a great way to get and extracurricular in and some leadership skills too. Try Camp Invention through the national inventors hall of fame. They have camps all over. You could also create a quick stem activity and teach it at the local elementary or preschool. Make it age appropriate. Stomp rockets are always a great hit!
