Since my last year of high school is coming up pretty fast I do not know what classes to ake my senior year considering I want to study law do I take an APUSH class or not like I wanted to take AP African-American for history but I also want to take American Law since that class gets me started for the career in college and I do not know what other classes to take for math, science, or english I am having a hard time understand what classes and also what college is good for me since I want to go out of state but I also want to be close to my home state. The colleges I want to do is Daeman University, UMASS Boston, or SUNY Buffalo State University but I do not know which one suits me best.
So I looked into it and here’s what I think might help you decide.
You don’t have to take APUSH to study law later. Colleges just want to see that you challenged yourself. If you really want to take AP African American Studies and American Law, that could actually be a good combo because the AP class shows rigor and the law class gives you early exposure to the field.
For senior year, a strong schedule for someone interested in law would focus on reading, writing, and analysis. Something like:
- AP English (Lang or Lit)
- AP African American Studies or APUSH
- American Law
- Precalculus or Statistics
- A science like Environmental Science or Biology
- An elective like Debate, Government, Psychology, or Public Speaking
Also remember: for law school your college major doesn’t have to be “law.” A lot of future lawyers major in things like political science, history, English, philosophy, or sociology.
About the colleges you mentioned:
- Daemen University is smaller and more personal.
- UMass Boston is in a big city with more internship opportunities, especially for politics or law.
- SUNY Buffalo State is more affordable and still a solid school.
If you want opportunities around law firms, government, and internships, UMass Boston might give you the most exposure because it’s in a major city. But it really depends on whether you want a smaller school environment or a bigger city experience.
