hiii, I'm currently a junior in hs and my gpa is 2.7 weighted and unweighted is it to late to bring it up before I start applying to colleges my senior year. My dream school is San Diego State University and I know it's tough to get into especially as for myself considering my gpa but is it possible to get in with at least 3.0?
please don't flame me i'm aware my gpa is not the best
I think that you absolutely can get into SDSU; it ultimately just depends on how badly you want it. It'll definitely be a difficult trip to get there, considering your GPA. However, what you can do to help is do some extracurriculars. Even though you're a junior and it's a bit late, it's better late than never. If you can show admissions how badly you want to get in and explain your situation, I think you have a solid chance.
First of all, this will be quite the uphill battle but still entirely possible. If you could explain to the colleges in your essays/additional info section why your grades and therefore GPA are low, this could help your case. If your reason is just that you couldn't do well in your classes, they are going to assume that the same thing will happen there. You will definitely have to make your case that you will do better in their school nevertheless, try to aim for either an underdog approach or "learn from the past, aim for the future" type of thing. Best of luck!
I don't think it's too late to improve your GPA, but raising it all the way to a 3.0 before applications might be a bit hard with the limited time left until then. The good news is that colleges do notice when you try to improve, so doing better senior year can still help your application. San Diego State University is competitive, with around a 40% acceptance rate, so it’s smart to have some backup options as well. I would focus on improving your grades as much as you can and strengthening other parts of your application like activities and essays. Besides your grades they will look at your extracurriculars and see how well-rounded you are. I hope you meet your goals!
