Am I behind?

I'm about to end junior year and I feel like I haven't accomplished much yet. I have a 3.1 uw GPA, a 4.3 w GPA, will complete 7 APs, 8 AICE, and 8 honors classes by senior year. My ECs are not too impressive either: Art club 1 year, Global Leaders United 3 years by senior year (will be in a VP Service position senior year), am trying to start a club, and volunteered at church for 1 year, and librarian assistant for 2 years. Only competition I have done is the county languages comp and won 4 1st place medals but we're graded individually. I would like to know if there is anything I can do to look more interesting to colleges. I really want to go to school like NYU.

First of all, I'm also an NYU hopeful! Next, I think it depends on what you're going for. I can't tell from your ECs what you want to do for a degree but I'm thinking Political Science or International Relations based off of the Global Leaders. I would say GPA and courses wise, you're all set. I think you need more on your ECs though. Unless everything you've done has some sort of quantifiable impact, you should look into summer programs. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I am actually trying to do business finance but I just decided on that earlier this Junior year, that is why it isn't as noticeable. Are there any programs you would know of? Also, good luck on your applications to NYU!

I would recommend looking for a business internship (family or family friends are great for these) and see if local colleges/community colleges have business programs. Even a summer job where you do something significant would do. If any of those aren't available, see if you can create your own thing. It doesn't necessarily have to be a for-profit business, you just need to create an initiative that produces either money or some other form of impact like a non-profit or a help center. If you aren't able to do any of those, really make sure your essays show your future aspirations and your clear motivation for success. Also, if you do end up creating the club, see if you can do some really unique things with it, especially if it's business/finance related. Good luck to you too!
