Hey guys! I am an uprising Junior, and I need some help making my application stand out. For reference, I am an African-American female with a strong Interest in Chinese, Science, and Dance. Here are some of my stats:
GPA: 3.9 (unweighted)
Test Scores: (I am still studying, but I am aiming for a 33+ ACT score)
EC's:
1.I am a part of the Student Diversity Leadership Committee at my school
2. I have served on my schools panel for incoming students
3. I published my history paper in 8th grade on NJSS website
4. I am apart of the STEM+ leadership comittee
5. I have served on student government 2+ years (I am going to be the president this upcoming school year)
6. I am currently working on publishing research with a professor at Rutgers
7. I am working on making a website designed to teach chinese to kids of color
8. I partake in Dance outside of school
9. I am also apart of my school's cheer team and have won an award
10. I am apart of Black Student Association
11. I am Co community service chair in J&J (if you don't know what J&J is, it is basically an African-American family organization where Black kids come together in their communities)
12. I am also apart of this speech and debate club in J&J
Goals I still have:
1. I really want to collaborate with this black dermatoligist and possibly get an internship with her but she hasn't responded to me
2. I want to grow my social media following on tiktok (I combine my love for chinese with my love for hiphop dance and create kinda like a fusion between the two styles)
3. I want to do something big, but I am not sure yet.
Question for you: What should I do next to connect all my passions (Chinese, Dance, Science) and create something big and successful for my personal statement?
I think that all of what you listed is pretty great, but my advice for you and anyone really, is to keep doing what you love, do what you think is the best, and even if something is hard don't give up. I think the website that you're trying to make will be AMAZING, if you have a link, could you send it to me? I would really like to check it out.
It feels like you've covered all your bases. So...honestly? No notes. But I would say pick a few (3 at most) to focus on and solidify. Personally, I would pick the research (impressive overall), the website (which combines Chinese and the POC community; this could also expand into your Dance interest, if possible), and the social media (again combines Dance and Chinese).
thank you so much! I wil definently make those my priorities this year!
