Hi! So, I tanked my freshman and sophomore year completely. Right now, I'm sitting at a GPA of 1.069. Yeah, I know, it's really low, but I'm taking SOAR courses to gain back missed credits from my sophomore year. I was passed to the next grade because of my guidance counselor. Anyway, I haven't taken any APs, and the rest were college prep/Pre-AP classes. This year I'm taking four SOAR courses, one honors class, art, Integrated Tech, a required graduation portfolio class, and SAT prep. I also go to an online school, but I plan to go back in-person next year. I estimated my GPA to be around 2.6 next year, so I was wondering if I should go to community college instead and basically "fix" my GPA to then transfer to a better university, or should I just go to a low-tier university?
You should try your hardest this year so you wont have to do as much when you got to college, I do suggest going to a community college and "fix" your GPA and then apply to a good school. Dont settle for less just because of the slump you had in your first two years. Going to a good school is doable with your GPA, you just have to try your hardest in the next coming years. Dont feel discouraged. Also, why havent you taken any AP classes? AP classes are a great boost if you do good in them.
If I were you, I would try my hardest to bring my GPA up. Did you tank because you did not understand the concepts, or did you just not do the work? I suggest trying different study methods if you are having trouble retaining any information. The pomodoro method works great for me, and if you have trouble staying focused for a long time it helps break it up into chunks! Starting out at community college sounds like a good opportunity to help bring your GPA up. It can also help with student loans and school costs! I would, to help with organization and resources, make a Google Drive with everything you need if you don't already. Best of luck!

I was on track to take AP classes my sophomore year, but when I switched to online school, they told me my grades weren't where they needed to be in order to be put in those classes, so I settled with college prep. Then after my sophomore year, my gpa was even lower, so I'm taking credit recovery courses now. I have too many classes to add on an AP class. And thank you for the advice!
