Common App Fafsa Mistake

On the common app, it says I need to add my social security number to my college applications if I want financial aid. I forgot to add it and I already submitted my applications. What should I do?

For most colleges, you will be able to update/add an SSN directly through the admissions or Financial aid portal (they will provide a form or link that you can fill out). Most colleges will alert you if you have any missing information. However, if this is not provided on the portal, you will need to contact the financial aid office via email or phone.

I would recommend emailing the college, either the financial aid or admissions (or your admissions counselor for that specific college). I am not sure who you should reach out to, but they should direct you to the right person. Hopefully, from there they can allow you to somehow upload/add your social security number to your account, I'm sure it's just for verification or something.

On one of my commonapps I checked off that I wasn't applying for financial aid by mistake. I emailed my admissions counselor immediately once I knew of this error and they fixed it for me. I would recommend doing this quickly to ensure everything goes well and I hope it does!

Maybe you can enter your social security number on the admissions website, the site to check your application/materials status? I know some schools have that option.

I hope this helps and if you need any clarifications please let me know!
