Paying for College

Should I attend a big, public university or a smaller schools honor college?

I was recently admitted into two schools with great pre-med programs.

However, for one of the schools, I was not admitted into their honors college, neither did I receive any scholarships or assistance. Additionally, this school has approximately 20,000 students and a very vibrant college community, synonymous to the typical college experience. This bigger school will be about three hours from my hometown, and one hour from where my father lives.

For the other school, I was admitted into their prestigious honors college, and given the presidential scholarship which is about $20,0000/year for five years. The location of the school is 40 minutes away from my hometown, and is about half the size of the school above. Additionally, this school does not have a lot of school spirit, since it is right in the middle of a city. I do feel this school will provide me with better support because of their honors college and the fact the school is much smaller than the above one.

The main problem is money. Even though I got into the smaller school with a scholarship, I still would be paying about 55k per year. For the bigger school, I would pay about 42k per year (about 13k difference)

Do you think it is worth it for me to go to the smaller school because of the individualized learning, or the bigger school because less loans/money??

Wow congratulations on getting accepted into those schools, even though I have no clue who you are I'm proud of you! Even though this is a hard decision I think that you should attend the smaller university since you already have a scholarship plus its a smaller environment so that you can better understand the material and you can build repours with your instructors. Hope this helps!

I would lean toward the smaller honors school as it will help you focus on your intended major and get to know those around you better.
