Paying for College

application fees
Answered

is there any way i can get app fees waived/removed/etc.? for all of the schools i plan on applying to, the total of app fees I'll need to pay is $320. there's even some schools i took off my list because the app fee was too much. my 'household income' isn't enough to get them waived i don't think, but we still don't really have enough to pay them all. any ideas? do i just shorten my list? i know there's schools with no app fee (and i have some on my list), but every school i actually want to go to has an app fee. like for me clemson is a reach and i would like to apply, but $70 just for me to not get in? ideas/advice?

Unfortunately, you have to demonstrate some type of financial need in order to obtain an application fee waiver. I was able to find the requirements so I've listed them just in case you missed one! If you do, then keep in mind that you can also waive the test fees for the ACT and SAT and wave try for an enrollment fee waiver(if the school accepts it, and many don't).

1. A part of the family that receives public assistance

2. Enrolled in the USDA Food and Nutrition Service’s free or reduced-price lunch program

3. A participant of programs such as GEAR UP or Upward Bound

4. An orphan, homeless, or a ward of the state

5. A member of a family that lives in federally subsidized public housing

Other than that, I'd recommend talking to your guidance counselor to see if there's anything else you can do (if you think it'll help!), you could also try emailing the college itself, but I don't think that's effective. I've also seen people starting a GoFundMe for their college. If worst comes to worst you will have to shorten your list and choose your favorites! I wish you the best of luck!!
