Does Financial Aid Diminish Chances of Getting Accepted?

When I was applying for high school, I was told that I shouldn't apply for financial aid because it would diminish my chances of getting in. I ended up not applying for financial aid, and luckily I got a academic/merit scholarship otherwise I wouldn't have been able to attend.

However, I know that getting a merit scholarship is much more difficult for colleges and many of the colleges that I want to go to don't even offer them. I have a college fund, but I'm still worried that I won't have enough money to attend, and I was thinking of applying for financial aid.

Would applying for financial aid hurt my chances of getting in? Or is that just some weird lie that I heard somewhere?

Many schools are need blind, so if that's the case, it won't hurt your chances. However, it sounds like you've already been accepted? They can't kick you for applying for aid.
