Scholarships for US citizens that don't reside or go to high school in the US
Answered

My son is researching into scholarships but found that most require you to have gone to high school in the US or reside there. He's a US citizen but went to high school abroad. Any suggestions on finding qualifying scholarships to apply to?

Since students like your son are essentially regarded as international students who do not need a visa, I recommend looking into scholarships for international applicants. This CollegeVine blog post is a good starting point for research. Some of these scholarship organizations do not clarify if they accept applicants like your son, so it would be good to double check with any programs that have vague admission requirements.

Besides applying for external scholarships, your son can also make college more affordable by applying to the schools that offer the most merit aid. Merit aid is automatically given to certain applicants just for applying, though there is no way to know how likely you are to receive it - these awards are given out on a case-by-case basis.

Hope this helps!
