Paying for College

Scholarships for students who don't qualify for financial aid.
Answered

Hello, I am a high school freshman who dreams of going to college. I have known that college was the right path for me my entire life, however, I know that I can't afford it but I won't qualify for most financial aid programs. However, I also don't want to take out student loans. I am one of five children and my family is in a lot of debt so my parents can't afford to pay for college but my father has a relatively high-paying job which prevents me from benefiting from many financial aid programs. Does anyone have any scholarship or financial aid program suggestions?

Hi @AtlasAtTwilight,

While I don't know of any full-ride scholarships off the top of my head, Scholarships360 is a great website for finding scholarships of various amounts, and RaiseMe shows you how much in merit-based scholarships certain colleges will offer you for various high school achievements. RaiseMe is especially good because the amounts it shows are the guaranteed minimum of what the colleges will offer you, so you could be eligible for even more. Scholarships.com is a good place to look for scholarships, too.

Many colleges will also offer merit-based scholarships when it comes time for you to apply, so try to focus on your grades and participate in extracurricular activities that you enjoy as well! Taking IB or AP classes (or your school's equivalent) is also a good idea, as many colleges look favorably on these classes and will even offer college credits to those who score well on their exams.

I hope this helps!
