Early Decision

I am a rising senior and decided to do early decision for college admissions but is unsure if I should choose early decision 1 or early decision 2.

What is the difference between those two options? What are the advantage and disadvantages of these decisions? If I choose early decision 2 and didn't get accepted, will that affect my admission in other universities?

Thank you!

Early Decision 1 deadlines are normally in October or November, where Early Decision 2 is a little later in that. With the difference in application deadline also is a difference in how soon you get your answers. However, both come with an agreement that you must attend the school if you get accepted. Some schools don't have ED2, so you have to research. CommonApp has a whole spreadsheet with application times once you add them to your list.

I don't think there is much of a difference besides the actual deadlines. Applying early decision already gives you an advantage as admissions officers will see your application before other similarly qualified peers who might apply with regular decision.
