How to create a genuine college list?
Answered

How do I actually create a list of colleges that I might APPLY to? I've heard about target, reach, and safety schools, but that just makes me want to add only reach schools to my list. Some stuff about me: (not sure if this helps in your answers, but whatever) 4.0 GPA, class rank 1, PSAT 1370, sophomore

I think doing research about what you look for in a school can also be helpful to narrowing down a college list. Maybe compile some things you look for an try to look for those in schools and make a list of reaches, targets, and safeties from that list! If you know what you want to major in that may also help as some schools may not offer that major so be sure to check if they have the major you're interested in.

As a sophomore in a similar situation, my advice would be to make sure your list has a lot of depth. It can be tempting to only add reach schools, but don’t limit yourself to only what shows as a reach. Be prepared to stretch yourself! When considering schools, keep in mind that what shows up as a target, for example, may be a reach in your people skills or leadership development. Don’t count certain schools out bc they don’t rank as high academically. U wanna grow as a person in college, not just as a student, right? Consider what you could do for the schools of your choice, not just what they can do for you! :)

Anyway I hope that helps! We are literally in the same boat lol
