I need help with finding colleges that are related to screenwriting and scripting.
University of Southern California (USC) – School of Cinematic Arts
New York University (NYU) – Tisch School of the Arts
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) – School of Theater, Film and Television
Chapman University – Dodge College of Film and Media Arts
Loyola Marymount University (LMU) – School of Film and Television
I'm also planning on going into the same fieid.I know when searching for schools to apply to it was a bit of a struggle finding schools that offer screenwriting. The past two schools offered great advice however some schools may offer it under a related name or for specific courses. For instance, UW-Milwaukee has a great Film program for a public school under Peck School of the Arts: catalog.uwm.edu/arts-architecture/arts/film/film-bfa/#requirementstext . Also a ton of schools have a more broad program but have specific concentrations such as Depaul under film and television: depaul.edu/academics/undergraduate/majors/Pages/film-television.aspx.
There are other things to look for as well, look closer at schools that offer film studies or media studies, they may have courses related to screenwriting or writing for film. Like Yale: catalog.yale.edu/ycps/subjects-of-instruction/film-studies/.
Overall as a junior myself going into a specific field I can relate to how difficult it can be to find schools with programs for screenwriting. Especially schools that are cheaper in comparision to schools directly in california. I personally would love to go to USC or Chapman but I know depending on if I get into the school and if I can afford it even after fasfa and scholarships I more than likely won't end up there. I'd say look schools in cities that have a reletively decent film industry such as:
Boston
Atlanta
New York
Chicago
Also don't hesitate to visit local schools near you if you haven't. I live in Milwaukee so I've been to marquette and Uw-milwaukee. I would also say look at 2 year schools as well. For me that would be MATC and they have a decent program as well. I do know however the dislike of staying in the city your from so those schoolsaren't high on my list but I am still planning on applying for backup becuase it maybe the cheapest option unfortuately.
Anyways I hope you do good on your college search,I hope I can be of help.
The NYU Tisch School of the Arts would be a great place to look. I would also look into Bard College; they're known for having strong writing programs.
