So i’m currently a sophomore in HS and just took my first 3 AP classes. AP Euro, AP CSP and AP Bio. I got an A in both euro and csp, but a B in bio. I have gotten all As in freshman year and all other courses this year. However, I do not wanna pursue anything biology related in college, I want to major in International Relations. How much is this going to hurt me?? My most prestigious schools on my list are probably Georgetown, UPenn, NYU, Northeastern, and Tulane. The rest are GWU, University of Denver, American, Fordham, UMD, Loyola Chicago, SDSU, Lehigh, and others.
So this is my question(s)
1) Am I cooked for these top colleges with my B in bio?? How much is this affecting my chances?
2) I need more colleges that are in big cities that are good for IR, please drop suggestions!!
Having one B won’t hurt you. My freshman year, I got four B’s in total and I’m currently a rising Junior with a 3.83 UW. While this isn’t great, taking a few easy summer school classes, and prioritizing your others will account for that. As perfect as a 4.0UW is, if your ECs, essay, and leadership roles are particularly good, you’ll be just fine. Besides, AP Bio is tough! You’ve got this twin. :)
I don’t think you are entirely cooked. However, having a B will pull your GPA down a bit. As long as all your other courses are still strong and you preform well on the AP Bio AP Exam, I don’t really think you have much to worry about. Also, taking 3 AP’s in your sophomore year is already A LOT! Most sophomores I know only would have only taken 1-2 AP’s in their sophomore year. You’re already on a great track. Now thinking about class rank and how the B is going to affect that, it might hinder your chances a little. I don’t know how competitive your high school is but I think you’ll be fine. BEST OF LUCK!! <3
my high school doesn’t even report class rank, so idk if that’s helpful for me or not haha!! it’s a public hs but it’s a pretty good one, so it’s a bit nerve racking. but thank you for your support!!! not taking another AP science ever again
