You might say: check the rankings. Please don't.
I plan to major in computer science, but I didn't catch how to see whether a school of interest have good computer science programs WITHOUT looking at the rankings.
Especially for the liberal arts colleges, I have no clue to figure out. I heard Smith College and Swarthmore College have wonderful computer science and engineering programs, but all the courses shown on their website pages look alike and idk why they're well-known.
I thought about looking at the following aspects:
1) Contrast course description with CMU or Stanford closely
2) Check how many professors there are in the CS department and see what they are researching
3) Watch YouTube videos from previous students or go on Reddit and College Confidential
...Are there any more?
Thanks
You can also see if the college provides internship opportunities for CS majors. Since the field is super competitive, it would give you a needed edge after graduation. For example, Northeastern is well-known for its co-op program.
so what i like to do is look at the courses you would take. Would the courses look like they would prep you well for your career? If they are just introduction courses and you want a Ph.D, then you would probably want more intensive courses. That is how I look at what the best colleges for my major are. Yes, rankings are nice, but if the ranked schools don't offer what you want, then they aren't worth it.
sry guyz im kinda new here on collegevine, just figured out i should drop this as a q&a lol
