Hey everybody, I was just wondering what the advantages/disadvantages would be to starting off at a community college vs starting at a university. I was looking at attending USC Sumter and getting an associates degree before transferring to USC, but after signing up for CollegeVine, it looks like my chances of getting into USC are good. Is there any more benefits other than lower tuition after transferring? Would it be an easier transition? All opinions are valued!
(Also bonus question, if I'm wanting to go into Criminal Psychology, it would be a better option to get a BS vs a BA, correct?)
Thank you so much!
Community college is a great option, not only are you saving money by not paying as much in tuition you can also make sure that you are happy with the degree you are pursuing without wasting money. Transferring after 2 years is something I was considering as well and it’s the right option for some especially if you are aiming for a pricey school. But also be careful because theres always the risk that you might not get in to the school you want to go to when you transfer. Just to be safe, apply to both schools then decide when you have your options.
I would say Community College is a good idea, I know people who go to/have gone to community college and say it is great. However, I suggest scheduling a tour because if you go and don't like it, you will gain a better understanding of whether you want to apply to a university or not.

Thank you so much! So, its not a guarentee that I can get into the school I want to transfer to?
