College Search

Hi,

I am planning to go into either neuroscience or psychology for college and am looking for schools with good reputations for either/both of these programs. I prefer to be in a more urban and progressive area. I don't need a ton of school spirit, a popular football team, or prominent Greek life. I do want a variety of extracurriculars and a solid STEM program that's not as competitive as an Ivy League school (idk how I'd afford going to one of those even if I got in). I'd prefer a private over a public university since public tends to be cheaper. It would also be nice if they had a good study abroad program, but that's not a requirement.

Thanks!

Hi!

I can definitely help out with this (If you're still looking, of course.), I just want to make sure I know exactly what you're looking for. I know you said it in the post, but could you reiterate so I can do a real deep dive? Maybe just in bullets? I'll try and get you a decently sized list.

On it! I'll try and have the list in a day or so.

Edit:

Still on this! Had to pause for a while to focus on the SAT, but I'll have it soon. It won't be a complete comprehensive list, you should look into it further, but it should give you some ideas to go off of!

The list is here! Finally found time between SATs and school... I only did Psychology for this ranking, because it was kinda difficult to reliably compare neuroscience programs with my usual method (and I was getting bored :P)... I scaled them each by points out of 100, but they're all really good! I just compared them against each other.

- UIUC - 91pts #1 (SAT 1300+)

- UW Madison - 91pts #2 (SAT 1400+)

- UCLA - 84pts #3 (Test Blind)

- University of Minnesota - 82pts #4 (SAT 1300+)

- IU Bloomington - 80pts #5 (SAT 1300+)

- UC Berkeley - 80pts #6 (Test Blind)

- UT Austin - 71pts #7 (SAT 1300+)

- University of Florida - 63pts #8 (SAT 1400+)

- UNC - 60pts #9 (SAT 1400+)

- Penn State - 60pts #10 (SAT 1300+)

- UMD - 57pts #11 (SAT 1400+)

- UW Seattle - 56pts #12 (SAT 1400+)

- CU Boulder - 56pts #13 (SAT < 1300)

- University of Pittsburgh - 55pts #14 (SAT 1300+)

- University of Iowa - 50pts #15 (SAT < 1300)

- Emory - 46pts #16 (SAT 1400+)

- Stony Brook University - 42pts #17 (SAT 1300+)

- Boston University - 41pts #18 (SAT 1400+)

- UConn - 38pts #19 (SAT 1300+)

- University of Oregon - 35pts #20 (SAT < 1300)

Don't take this as your de facto list, of course! No one knows what you want better than you. Double check all of these in your own time and find which ones work for you, and try and find some more of your own with this criteria if you'd like! Good luck on your search! :D
