Hi! I’m a senior from NYC trying to finalize my college list, and I’d really appreciate some guidance.
Stats: ~3.8 GPA , 1150 sat; plan on retaking
Intended major: Marketing (with possible minor in Computer Science or AI).
What I’m looking for:
Strong business/marketing programs with internship opportunities.
Schools that give good financial aid.
Smaller/midsized classes where I can connect with professors (big lectures overwhelm me).
Open to both city campuses and traditional college towns, as long as it’s a safe environment.
A school with some spirit/community (sports/activities are nice, Greek life not a priority).
My list so far:
Safeties: Baruch, Pace, Hofstra, Temple
Targets: Fordham, Pitt, UF, Syracuse
Reaches: Cornell (Dyson), Columbia, University of Michigan (Ross)
Questions:
Does this list look balanced, or should I add more targets/reaches?
What schools would you recommend that are strong in business/marketing and generous with aid?
For students at Columbia, Cornell, or Michigan — how supportive are the business/marketing programs, and what’s the overall vibe like?
Thanks so much for any advice!
You have very strong stats for a lot of schools, but ivies typically don't accept below 3.95-4.00 unweighted GPA. I'm not saying it's impossible, especially since I don't know your ECs. Not to mention, those ivies are incredibly expensive, so make sure you fit within their eligibility standards for aid. Other than that, you have a solid list! I might consider adding a couple more safeties and targets if you want to have more options when you make your decision. Honestly, even bigger D1 schools like UT and Arkansas have really great business programs even though they're public universities with higher acceptance rates. All of that to say, don't put all of your eggs in one basket. It's totally okay if you don't get into your reach schools, that's normal! They're reaches for a reason! Good luck with the admissions process and with finding a school!
