Hi everyone,
I'm a high school student from Germany currently in my junior year and I've always dreamed of studying in the United States for my undergraduate degree. However, I would only be able to attend if I receive a full scholarship, which makes me a bit anxious about selecting the right universities and whether my profile might be strong enough to qualify for both admission and financial aid.
My GPA is about 3.8 (translated from a German average of around 1.2 on the 1-6 scale with 1 being the best grade) and outside of school I have some extracurriculars. I dance, play the piano and take university courses (bachelor and master courses) out of personal interest in areas like law and psychology (I’ve earned some credits as well). I'm also involved in volunteering. I help at a facility for people with disabilities, work as a tutor and serve as an altar server.
In school, I was part of the student council last year and currently represent my grade. I’ve participated in a state-level academy for high-achieving students and write for a newspaper that supports refugees. I’m currently assisting in psychological research and will soon contribute to a project on child mental health. I've also completed internships at a well-known hospital and in a psychiatric clinic.
I'd really appreciate any advice on U.S. universities that offer generous financial aid to international students and whether my profile sounds competitive enough to aim for such schools. I’m worried about applying to the wrong places and wasting my chances, so any tips on building a strong application would be very helpful!
Thanks in advance :)
Hello,
Based on the information you provided, I would like to recommend some schools. For reach schools, I would recommend USC and University of Chicago. For hard targets, I would recommend NYU and Boston university. For targets, I would recommend Georgia State and Loyola Marymount. For safeties, I would recommend Cal Poly Pomona and Barry University.
However, it really depends on what you would like. If you want to be in Los Angeles at a large school, I would recommend UCLA. For a small school in the East, Amherst college would be a great choice. Factors like location, size, and campus life are really important to consider. Its also highly important that you have either SAT or ACT scores, as they will increase your chances and some colleges do require them. Also make sure to highlight impact with extracurriculars.
Over all, you have a competitive applications and could get into most schools in the United States. If you have a good essay, your likely to get into where ever you choose to apply.
I understand what you mean ! They're are a lot of colleges that offer financial aid including Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, and Mizzou!!
