Hi, I'm a sophomore with a projected 3.94 uw GPA and 4.77 weighted
I took the PSAT in October this year and scored a 1340, and I would like to turn that into a 1500+ SAT score
I am a member of best Buddies, leadership in model un, VP of SWE, and VP of book club as well as jv track and xc. I have 200+ volunteer hours as a tutor and church volunteer so far
I would like to go to a school that is highly ranked for its psych program, preferably in the mid-atlantic region but I am open to further distances. I would also prefer a school with good financial aid.
Based on the above, what schools would be preferable for me to apply to? And what can I do to improve my application so far?
Also, would it hurt my admissions chances if I ended up taking AP psych as a senior?
Hey! So, it sounds like you’re doing awesome in school! With a 3.94 GPA and all those extracurriculars, you cn go far with that, For schools with good psych programs, you might wanna look at:
University of Maryland - They have a really strong psych program and do a lot of research.
Johns Hopkins - Super well-known for psychology and they offer good financial aid.
George Washington University - Good program and being in D.C. is a plus for internships.
James Madison University - They have a solid psych program and a friendly campus vibe.
If you're okay with schools further out, try:
University of Chicago - Great program but super competitive.
University of Michigan - Tons of resources for psychology.
UCLA - Really well-ranked but also further away.
To boost your application, definitely try to up your SAT score to 1500+. Just study consistently and take practice tests. Also, maybe look for more leadership roles or projects related to psychology if you can. Research experience is huge too, so try to connect with a teacher for opportunities. And about taking AP Psychology senior year, I don’t think it’ll hurt your chances! If anything, it’ll show that you’re really into the subject. Just do well in the class, and it’ll look good on your application!
from, another high school sophomore :)
