How do you find safety schools?
Answered

I have an above average SAT, excellent GPA and pretty good extracurriculars, including things like volunteering and leadership. I'm not struggling finding reach and target schools, but I am completely lost on safeties.

My sister's safeties were big state schools that a lot of people might view as targets or reaches. Obviously, it's not schools you really want to go to, but I have no idea how to narrow it down! There are hundreds of schools I could get into, but they all seem really similar, so I don't know what to choose for safeties. Any advice?

Hello, Although it would depend on which state you're in. For me in Wisconsin, I have applied to...

UW Eau Claire

Marquette University(Very safe, I personally recommend)

Carthage College

Bradley University

Marian University

UW Stout

Hope this helps and good luck with the college search!

Hi! Safeties should be a college where your SAT and GPA are higher than the average. Choose a couple of schools that match this criteria that you would be happy to go to. To start, check out the state schools (not all of them are big) in your state. Just Google "state universities in..." If you want to go out of state, do the same for whatever state you wish to live in. Additionally, some private schools may be considered safeties.

You can use Collegevine AI to suggest good safety schools based on your stats or research on your own!

It depends on the career or program you are interested in. You can start by looking at the colleges for the programs they offer, find the ones that have your program of choice, then cancel out the rest. Then you can take a deeper look into the programs themselves and see what each program has to offer and choose a few you really like. Then contact the schools and you'll be on your way! Best of luck!
