GPA Help

Hi, so I am currently a high school sophomore, and my GPA is currently a 3.26, my top 5 at the moment are

1. St. John's University

2. Fordham

3. CUNY John Jay

4. Pace University

5. Rutgers

Am I currently on a good track or would there be other things I need to do?

(My extracurriculars are, as of now, Future Health Club, 30+ Community Service Hours, Animal Welfare Club, Softball and Indoor Track, I am also CPR certified if that does look good)

It looks like you're doing good, maybe some more clubs/extracurriculars, or joining higher leadership opportunities within your extracurriculars, like trying out for team captain or president of a club.

Thank you so much, I was considering maybe even forming a club, would this also help my chances?

As a Sophomore, you are on a good track. You'll want to improve your GPA as much as possible, and work on SAT/ACT Prep. Also maybe consider doing an art or instrument to further exhibit your well-roundedness. Especially if you're looking into a CUNY. My dad went to St. John's with a GPA around (or maybe slightly higher) than yours. I hope that this helps!

I used to play the cello, but only for 4 years, should I also include that?

I think that as a sophomore, you have a good start; however, I would say that you should stick with the extracurriculars you have. If you excel in one field, you will look far more appealing than if you do mediocrely in several.

I would say do some more rigorous coursework, like APs if offered. I know that doing all this can be pretty stressful, so try to find something academic that you find relaxing and fun that you can do in your free time to relax. I would ultimately advise you to consider what you are looking to study before you look at colleges. CUNY John Jay is definitely good for criminal justice and legal stuff; Rutgers is definitely a pretty big goal alongside St. John's for a sophomore. I would say that if you want to go to one of those more prestigious or selective colleges, work on your GPA, the difficulty of your coursework, and how many courses you take.

I know when I was a sophomore, I wanted to go to a big school and was, at one point, looking at John Jay, and I realized that I was looking at me being enough for the school instead of the school being enough for me. You want to find a school that will serve your future career and your personal goals well. If you get your GPA up a little bit, you can probably join the National Honor Society, which, if you get a leadership position in it, will look pretty good to colleges.
